Biography

For as long as I can remember I have always been enthralled with the spontaneity of the natural world. I spend many hours out in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside that I am proud to call my home.

I always doodled from an early age as children tend to do. I started giving animal drawings to close friends as substitutes for birthday presents. I discovered how much I enjoyed drawing in pencil and what's more, the satisfaction of witnessing friends' reactions to my work.

Despite studying art at school the thought of pursuing it as a career never occurred to me as my heart was set on learning the science behind the fascinating creatures I had come to admire since childhood.

I went on to study Zoology at Aberystwyth where I graduated in 2009. Graduate competition in the conservation job sector made it increasingly difficult to find a job and so family and friends suggested commissioning drawings and before I knew it mere acquaintances were approaching me to draw their pets.

The rest, they say, is history! I can now dedicate time to building up a collection of wildlife pieces with the hope of exhibiting in the future. There are not enough hours in the day to accommodate the number of ideas that literally pop into my head.

My studies at university really expanded my understanding of animal anatomy which I feel is reflected more and m
ore through my art. With each drawing I find myself improving and refining past techniques which is tremendously satisfying in itself. Although the fine detailing of each drawing can be intense the process is very therapeutic and the end result so rewarding it certainly makes up for it.  This amazing world we are so privileged to live in has provided me with no end of potential life studies and that prospect is an exciting and yet challenging one also.  I am very much looking forward to getting my teeth into every new project I have in mind.
